Basics Of Translation
This programme is for practising translators and those interested in a career in translation. This course is primarily about translation, as you will be introduced to the basics of translation. The course familiarises students with basics principles of translation skills. It is a course in the translation of non-specialized sentences and texts between Arabic and English. The course aims at building the skills of translation including, among other things, vocabulary building, colloquial expressions, using dictionaries, solving syntactic problems in translation, cohesion and coherence, culture in translation, and language varieties.
The course will focus on the differences in both languages (English-Arabic) in terms of: culture, structure, grammar, stylistic problem and process of translation.
Delegates will be introduced to different types of translations, such as written translation and three types of interpretation; simultaneous, consecutive and sight interpretation.
There will be extensive number of practical exercises taken from difference recourses; newspaper, books, video clips from UN meetings or TV channels.
