Course overview

Physical security brings together access and egress control, risk management and procedures for protecting assets. Those assets include people and property as well as policy, procedures and reputation. The programme examines security and resilience measures in the current operating environment, beginning with proactive and reactive approaches, operational requirements and the place of strategy in management.

Threat assessment informs planning. Delegates study threat types, environmental exposure and the distinction between risks and threats, using the onion principle and defence in depth. Practical sessions then address control methods, duties, types and plans for access and egress, before equipment application and system operations are examined. Assessment methods, exposure and vulnerabilities in access technologies form the work on day 5, alongside information technology in physical security. Internal and external procedures receive attention alongside live exercises, demonstrations and active participation.
