Course overview
Automation and machine learning now drive many business decisions. This shift places heavy demands on companies to get their oversight right. Without a clear plan, deploying these tools can lead to compliance breaches, biased results, and the unchecked spread of unapproved software, often called Shadow AI.
Governance design draws on the EU AI Act and frameworks such as NIST and ISO/IEC 42001. Delegates examine failure cases before practising impact assessment and risk audits, then draft policies that reflect their organisation's obligations and values. Workshops connect these policies with explainability, transparency and models that can be audited and scaled.
Oversight includes human intervention and supervision. Sessions examine third-party vendors and employee use of public or embedded AI tools, including how to respond when Shadow AI is misused or fails. Strategy work connects governance with corporate sustainability and ESG, followed by maturity assessment and an implementation roadmap.
Course objectives
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:
- Explain governance principles and responsible, ethical practice in AI
- Build frameworks for governance that satisfy the organisation's needs and regulatory obligations
- Identify AI exposures in technology, operations and ethics and manage their consequences
- Apply practices that make AI transparent, explainable and auditable
- Use NIST and ISO/IEC 42001 when developing internal AI initiatives
- Establish responsibilities and roles supported by oversight mechanisms
- Detect bias, assess impacts and audit risks in AI systems
- Lead AI deployment that meets ethical and compliance requirements in different industries
