Course overview
ERPs and databases can contain large volumes of unstructured data. The course introduces practical BI methods for cleaning, normalising and interpreting that information, establishing historical relationships, analysing present conditions and informing future strategies. Applications cover operational, tactical and strategic decisions across departments, including reporting, reconciliation, modelling, integration and automation. Excel work addresses data slicing and aggregation before introducing dynamic models, dashboards, scorecards, flash management reports and key performance indicators.
MS Excel is the working tool. Delegates connect Excel to Access, web and internet sources, text files, SQL, ERPs and other databases, then explore controls for what-if modelling and the presentation of results. Charting, formula-based visuals and report design accompany the analytical work. Design and structure account for 20% of the course, while 80% uses Excel as the BI tool. Daily exercises, cases and projects give individuals and groups opportunities to practise, including techniques and shortcuts for working efficiently.
