Course overview

Refinery operations require a careful balance. Engineers must maximise yield while maintaining safety and meeting strict environmental regulations. Process professionals need a detailed understanding of the chemical reactions and separation technologies that convert crude oil into valuable end products.

The training details the central chemical processes in modern refineries. Delegates study atmospheric and vacuum distillation, catalytic cracking and hydroprocessing. The programme explains how catalysts behave in refining, and it breaks down how advanced separation technologies like molecular distillation work in practice.

The final days address the integration of refining with petrochemical units to manage by-products like sulfur and hydrogen. Delegates also review process safety management, carbon capture strategies and the regulatory framework governing emissions.

Course objectives

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  1. Analyse chemical processes used in modern refining operations
  2. Evaluate refining technologies for product enhancement
  3. Manage environmental and safety challenges in refineries
  4. Apply advanced technologies to optimise yield and efficiency
  5. Integrate refining processes with petrochemical production
