Course overview

The oil and gas industry is adjusting to shifts in global demand, sustained price volatility and the geopolitical impact of shale production. Professionals joining the sector, or moving into broader management roles, need a clear picture of how the upstream, midstream and downstream segments interact.

The sessions explain the commercial structures that underpin the industry. Delegates review the fiscal agreements used by international and national oil companies, including joint ventures and production sharing contracts. The programme breaks down the capital project lifecycle, from front-end loading to execution and earned value management.

Delegates also learn how to evaluate project opportunities using discounted cash flow analysis, internal rate of return (IRR), net present value (NPV) and unit technical cost (UTC). The final sessions focus on risk management and include a capstone case study on the geopolitical effects of United States shale gas production.

  2. Identify key players and commercial drivers across the value chain
