Course overview

Leadership affects project delivery. Personal skills for influencing and persuading others are examined in relation to timely completion, including work with customers, suppliers and people outside the project leader's direct control. Delegates appraise their leadership skills and consider how a personal leadership style affects actions and decisions.

Politics affects project work. The discussion covers organisational politics at project and senior management levels, stakeholder attitudes and power, and the development of a project-focused culture. Flexible leadership styles accompany communication and coaching skills, with attention to individual performance, team development and result-based leadership.

Power and influence are examined alongside delegation and the authority given to team members. Negotiation sessions cover the project leader's role, preparation, conducting discussions and managing conflict through win-win agreements. Development work includes a political strategy, a communication plan and the negotiation requirements of the project.
