Course overview

Organisations frequently struggle when rigid project plans meet fast-changing commercial requirements. Traditional predictive models sequence work, define dependencies, and establish cost baselines with high precision. Yet unexpected market shifts often disrupt fixed schedules. Project leaders need a flexible way to sustain commercial value.

This course contrasts waterfall controls with adaptive delivery. Delegates review the PMI PMBOK standard and ANSI guidelines to assess how iterative methods reduce delivery risk. In contrast, adaptive frameworks prioritise frequent stakeholder feedback and rapid increments of working product.

Instruction explores SCRUM implementation, team dynamics, and quantitative tracking methods. Delegates test delivery hypotheses against practical project scenarios. They evaluate risk registers, calculate earned value metrics, and practise agile ceremonies. These exercises help delegates choose the right delivery model for their organisation.

Course objectives

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  1. Evaluate how high-performing team dynamics and self-organisation drive successful adaptive delivery
  2. Apply predictive planning methods to align project scope, schedules, budgets, and resource allocation
  3. Implement governance rules and role definitions within the SCRUM framework
  4. Structure backlog refinement, capacity planning, and stakeholder engagement for agile projects
  5. Facilitate sprint planning sessions to establish clear iteration goals and team commitments
  6. Manage sprint execution using daily stand-ups, burndown charts, and impediment removal
  7. Conduct sprint reviews and retrospectives to capture stakeholder feedback and drive continuous improvement

Who should attend

This course suits:

  • Project managers, programme managers, and senior project leaders overseeing complex delivery portfolios
  • IT project managers, technical leads, and systems coordinators transitioning to iterative delivery
  • Product managers, business analysts, and project coordinators defining backlog priorities and requirements
  • Project sponsors and departmental stakeholders collaborating with predictive and adaptive delivery teams

Training methodology

  • The facilitator delivers conceptual presentations supported by practical case studies and interactive team discussions.
  • Delegates work through applied exercises contrasting predictive schedule controls with adaptive sprint execution.
  • Structured group activities allow delegates to practise SCRUM ceremonies, earned value analysis, and change management scenarios.
