Course overview
Employee Relations (ER) concerns the relationship between an organisation and its employees, including productive working arrangements, transparency, employment law compliance and ethical standards. Practitioners with existing experience examine more complex ER issues and how organisational goals can be aligned with employee needs. The work addresses diverse stakeholders and modern workplace demands.
Conflict has costs. Sessions consider satisfaction, retention, engagement and labour and industrial relations, alongside the time and expense involved in workplace disputes. Delegates study negotiation and mediation skills that can transfer to their HRM and ER work, and examine future developments in the field. Generations Y, Z and Alpha provide context for changing employment relationships.
Stakeholder analysis is followed by principle-based negotiation and approaches for defending ER decisions using sound practice. The psychological contract is distinguished from engagement, and workplace conflict sessions cover disciplinary processes, grievance handling and investigation. Mediation work identifies suitable issues and follows the stages through to formalised agreements. Practical sessions, relevant cases, simulations and group games support interactive learning, with personal action planning at the end.
