Course overview
Data analytics uses statistical principles with roots described as reaching back to Ancient Egypt. Globalisation and technological developments have expanded its use in strategic decisions and created specialised analyst, scientist and engineer roles. The course context cites a Forbes report associating analytics with a 23-fold greater likelihood of customer acquisition and a 6-fold greater likelihood of retention; it also cites McKinsey's estimate of a 23-fold advantage in customer acquisition and an estimated 2.5 quintillion bytes of data generated globally each day.
CDAP develops the work behind an analysis. Delegates formulate research questions, collect and organise information and turn unstructured sources into findings that address business challenges. Preparation includes cleaning and scrubbing methods before statistical analysis, data mining, machine learning and language processing. Algorithms, regression, classification and clustering accompany association and sequence analysis. Visual design then connects plots, graphs and heatmaps with the presentation of a business case, using interactive exercises and discussion.
Course objectives
