Financial controllers prepare and review accounts while overseeing budgets and the staff who produce them. This course brings those responsibilities together in ten modules, giving delegates practice in analysing performance and judging how current operations may affect future financial results. The opening work examines the controller's changing role and reporting duties.
Statements provide the starting point for analysis. Delegates examine International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), then use ratios to assess liquidity and solvency as well as profitability and investment activity. Budget work addresses evaluating plans and presenting them to senior management, including reports that compare actual results with the budget.
Controls extend across the organisation. Sessions examine policies and procedures, system controls and ethical considerations, with backup and disaster recovery planning included in the control function. Excel practice covers data validation, pivot-table reconciliations and dashboards. Personal organisation and time management complete the course, with attention to staff skills, attitudes and the accounting close.
