Advanced Financial Modelling with Excel

Intensive 5-day course · English, Arabic & European languages

Financial modelling in Excel is the focus of this five-day programme for finance professionals and people responsible for estimating sales, costs, risks and economic variables. Delegates build optimisation models, use statistical forecasts and examine derivatives. Oil and gas cases connect the modelling work with investment risk and decisions about growth.

Course overview

Oil prices and movements in exchange or interest rates affect financial estimates. Delegates use Excel to examine these variables alongside sales, costs and risk, building their finance knowledge through cases drawn from oil and gas and their own organisations. The five-day course develops models intended for use in business decisions.

Forecasts supply the model's inputs. Work on estimation uses statistical techniques, including regression and exponential smoothing, before delegates simulate changes to payables and receivables within a financial optimisation model. Sessions on derivatives examine their use in managing volatile oil prices and exposure to interest and exchange rates.

Growth receives a separate day's attention, including the risks of overtrading and the effects of acquisitions or mergers on earnings and share values. A final case brings together the techniques from days 1 to 4. Delegates build a model for their organisation, present it and test it before considering improvements and reporting the resulting decisions.

Course objectives

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  1. Use Excel analysis to improve financial decisions
  2. Build advanced models for financial applications in Excel
  3. Analyse financial information using current modelling tools and good practice
  4. Use models when managing sales, costs and financial exposure
  5. Develop advanced models and report on their practical use
