Fixed assets are the foundation of any organisation's ability to generate future benefits and produce goods. Managing and accounting for these resources effectively is a core responsibility for finance teams. This five-day course covers the complete lifecycle of a fixed asset, starting at creation or acquisition, moving through maintenance and utilisation, and ending at renewal or disposal.
The syllabus draws heavily on the British Standards Institution's PAS 55 and the ISO 55000 framework. Delegates work through the 28 points of PAS 55, looking at strategy, controls, and management review to maximise asset utilisation. The sessions also introduce decision-making tools like the Internal Rate of Return (IRR) and Net Present Value (NPV) to help teams decide when to replace, refurbish, or acquire new equipment.
The accounting modules focus on the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Delegates study IFRS 16 for property, plant, and equipment, alongside IFRS 38 for intangibles. The training also explains capitalisation rules, the application of fair value measurement under IFRS 13, and various approaches to calculating depreciation and asset impairment.
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:
