Course overview
Information decisions need accountable owners. The course examines decision rights, processes, roles, standards and measures for valuing, creating, storing and using information, then archiving or deleting it. Data quality, privacy and cybersecurity risks connect this framework with the growing volumes of information that organisations manage, plan, support, analyse and deliver.
GDPR took effect in Europe in 2018. Its implications for privacy and data protection accompany the discussion of international practice, industry regulation, legal requirements, auditing and information compliance. Named references include ISACA, ISO 8000 international data management standards and ISO27001 information security. Data analysis, analytics and big data sit alongside databases, warehousing, reporting, centrally managed core data (MDM), metadata and records compliance.
Policy development needs practical controls. Delegates examine systems for content, documents and records, including dictionaries, relational database indexing and preservation. Governance projects address responsibilities, risk management and business process improvement, with action plans informed by reviews of information and its controls. Regional and international cases include Facebook and Cambridge Analytica, and exercises use pairs and larger teams.
