Course overview

Modern enterprises generate massive transactional and operational records daily. While specialised analytics software exists, standard desktop spreadsheets remain the most accessible business calculation platform. MS Excel contains extensive analytical capability that frequently remains underused. The course transforms everyday spreadsheet users into capable quantitative analysts.

Structured over five instructional days, the curriculum builds systematic competence from foundational mechanics to advanced statistical calculation. Delegates explore more than 50 MS Excel functions, including text manipulation tools like FIND, LEN, LEFT and RIGHT, alongside conditional formulas such as COUNTIF, COUNTIFS and SUMIF. They configure lookup architectures, manage date series using YEAR, MONTH and YEARFRAC, and assemble interactive pivot tables.

Delegates run descriptive statistics, build histograms, analyse dependencies and execute optimisation routines using Solver. The sessions conclude with multi-cell scenario planning workflows.

Course objectives

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate operational fluency across more than 50 MS Excel calculation functions
  2. Select and configure appropriate chart types for specific reporting scenarios
  3. Manipulate and cleanse textual strings and numerical datasets in MS Excel
  4. Execute statistical evaluations and variance analyses using spreadsheet tools
  5. Analyse relationships between business variables and construct predictive forecasts
