Course overview

Pricing and strategic choices involve economic judgements. This five-day programme examines the principles behind those judgements, giving business professionals a way to assess demand and costs alongside the wider conditions affecting their firm. Delegates consider economic objectives and goals beyond profit, including how decisions affect shareholder wealth.

Work on the firm begins with setting goals and estimating demand, then examines how market structures affect the prices and output levels a business chooses. Delegates use regression analysis and demand elasticity in forecasting. Cost analysis includes break-even calculations (Volume-Cost-Profit), while the treatment of value covers Market Value Added (MVA) and Economic Value Added (EVA).

The final two days shift attention to the macroeconomic environment. Delegates examine how the business cycle, inflation, interest rates, unemployment and exchange rates affect firm strategy, then trace the transmission mechanisms of fiscal and monetary policy, including the effects of public debt and the balance of trade on currency exchange rates.
