Course overview

Reliability engineering is an urgent business issue. This course examines how to use operational research methods and multiple criteria decision-making to manage risks. It takes an interdisciplinary approach, showing delegates how to learn from major industrial failures in order to improve internal maintenance strategies.

The five days cover proactive risk analysis, reliability block diagrams, and fault tree analysis. Delegates examine safety and integrity tools for identifying, managing and eliminating product or system failures. Maintenance feedback informs design. Data analysis connects research in risk assessment, reliability engineering and decision analysis with safety management.

After completing the training, delegates can serve on a disaster investigation team. They understand how high reliability organisations (HROs) operate. They leave ready to generate effective performance metrics and implement better safety methodologies.

Course objectives

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  1. Apply best practices acquired from high reliability organisations (HROs)
  2. Use specific activities to help the organisation perform at a higher level
  3. Generate and implement effective performance metrics for safety
  4. Analyse existing methodologies critically to implement improvements
  5. Connect theory with practice and evolving methods in risk, safety and reliability analysis
  6. Serve effectively on a formal disaster investigation team

Who should attend

This course suits:

  • Mechanical, process, and energy engineers
  • Production and reliability engineers
  • Maintenance engineers and technical support staff
  • Plant managers, general managers, and quality managers
  • Professionals involved in maintenance and reliability strategies
  • Operations and engineering staff concerned with safety and reliability
  • People involved in or considering safety, performance measurement, improvement, quality or reliability activities
