Course overview
Scope changes, delays and cost overruns create a need for controls that connect project information across an enterprise. The course examines how scope, schedule, budget, risk and workflow fit together in an integrated system. Digital transformation, cloud computing and big data add requirements that delegates consider when defining business needs and selecting the appropriate level of detail.
Reports need a consistent evidence base. Delegates examine how the components of a Project Control System (PCS) work together and how ePCS implementation can give management a single version of project performance information for decisions. Practical work addresses planning, resource requirements and cost control, including earned value measures and progress reporting across project phases.
Delay analysis includes the Society of Construction Law (SCL) protocol, concurrent delays and Time Impact Analysis (TIA). Disruption costs, acceleration and recovery planning follow. Risk quantification through Monte Carlo simulation, contract changes and amendments complete the technical work, with portfolio analysis tools, case studies and workshops supporting application.
Course objectives
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:
- Describe how PCS modules and components connect within an integrated Project Control System
- Gather business needs and translate them into requirements for current project controls
- Determine how much detail an enterprise Project Control System (ePCS) needs
- Implement ePCS controls for scope and schedule alongside cost, risk, changes and records
- Prepare ePCS performance reports that give management a single version of the truth for decisions
Who should attend
This course suits:
- Sponsors of projects and senior managers responsible for organisational planning and project control
- Managers and staff working in project controls
