Course overview

Reward includes compensation, salary, benefits and recognition in organisations of different sizes across public and private sectors. Research and working-practice examples inform the programme's examination of how reward management relates to performance, productivity, retention, employee attitudes and organisational well-being. Delegates consider economic, psychological and motivational factors, and the place of reward strategies and policies in organisational goals.

Fairness needs assessment. Job or Occupational Analysis (JA), Job Evaluation (JE) and pay surveys provide context for examining inequality, its causes and possible solutions. Total reward and workplace culture inform the design of compensation systems, while the changing psychological contract is considered alongside employee motivation. Benefits sessions include performance-related pay and flexible benefits.

Recognition can take different forms. Non-financial rewards are examined in relation to attracting, retaining and motivating people, together with employee participation and engagement. Appraisal work addresses reasons for failure and ways to handle common problems. Interactive presentations, activities, cases and role-play with feedback support practical learning. Strategy development uses the CIPD Pay management survey and considers executive and expatriate rewards; a toolkit and personal action planning support later application.
