Course overview

An evidence-based approach requires methods for collecting information, interpreting it and judging possible solutions. Delegates examine how workforce and HR metrics can be reviewed, defined, measured and tracked against business objectives. Human capital analytics, problem-solving and decision techniques are considered alongside HR's strategic contribution and technological developments in workforce analysis.

Measures need interpretation. Quantitative and qualitative data, self-assessments and self-report measures provide different perspectives, with benchmarking and electronic workforce surveillance examined as methods of capture and analysis. The work distinguishes data, information and insights, and considers effectiveness, efficiency and impact in assessing HR. Cultural context, changing business conditions and technology inform the study of organisational change, including theories, enablers, barriers and resistance.

Practical applications use the Balanced Scorecard, HR planning and recruitment analytics, then succession, talent, absence, skills and training needs analysis. Performance sessions connect motivation and engagement with empowerment and accountability. Tutorials, cases, videos and individual and syndicate work provide interactive learning, with discussion allowing delegates to compare experiences. Each day ends with reflection and planning for transfer to work before the concluding action plan.
