Labour laws establish boundaries for HR decisions and the relationship between employees and employers. Delegates examine fundamental rights, obligations and regulatory requirements, including contracts, wages and working hours. The programme considers protection of employees and organisations, legal risk, ethical practice and fair workplaces, with attention to the implications for employee relations, retention and organisational reputation.
Compliance requires attention. Safety and health, anti-discrimination rules, harassment prevention and equal employment obligations are examined with benefits and compensation requirements. Topics include OSHA standards, EEO, employee classifications and FMLA, alongside sickness leave and workers' compensation.
HR practice must respond to change. Delegates consider ways to keep knowledge of regulations current and avoid non-compliance penalties, as well as legal boundaries in leave, discipline, termination and disputes. Claims, litigation and potential liability are examined as matters for informed decisions. Instructor-led lectures, cases, workplace examples and group discussions provide context, while exercises, role-play and feedback explore practical issues faced by HR advisers.
