Course overview

Every phase of oil and gas production operates under strict legal frameworks. Failure to comply with these rules can result in litigation, financial loss and severe environmental damage. Compliance officers and site managers must understand how to align corporate governance with international accountability standards to avoid incidents like Deepwater Horizon or Piper Alpha.

The training covers the global regulatory environment. Delegates study international conventions like OSPAR, MARPOL, the IAEA and the Basel Convention. The sessions detail how to build compliance systems that integrate with ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001. Delegates also review the legal obligations for waste management, pollution control and emergency spill response.

Special attention goes to radiation safety. Delegates investigate how to handle naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) and technologically enhanced NORM (TENORM) in refining environments. The final modules focus on preparing for regulatory audits and conducting internal legal risk assessments.

Course objectives

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  1. Apply statutory, legal and regulatory frameworks to operations
  2. Identify compliance obligations for environmental protection and safety
  3. Maintain effective compliance management and governance systems

  5. Manage the licensing and handling of radioactive materials
  6. Execute compliance audits and establish continuous improvement
  7. Mitigate risks associated with non-compliance and legal liabilities
  8. Build a culture of accountability and ethical compliance
