Course overview

A loading supervisor at a marine terminal carries responsibility for some of the most hazardous cargo movements in the energy supply chain. They must coordinate with ship personnel, oversee complex hydrocarbon transfers and keep every step compliant with international environmental rules. One lapse in oversight can halt operations and trigger regulatory action.

The course covers the infrastructure and cargo handling systems specific to oil, gas and LNG facilities. Delegates work through pre-arrival and pre-loading checklists, cargo compatibility checks and contamination prevention. IMO, ISGOTT and SIGTTO set the international safety standards these facilities must meet, and the programme covers how each standard applies in practice.

Days three and four address risk and environmental obligation. Hazard identification, emergency drills, fire safety, spill prevention and MARPOL compliance each get dedicated sessions. The fifth day turns to leadership: decision-making under pressure, stakeholder communication and the continuous improvement of terminal performance across complex LNG and hazardous material transfers.

Course objectives

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  1. Define the core roles and responsibilities of a loading supervisor
  2. Maintain compliance with international maritime and safety standards
