Energy project forecasts depend on their assumptions. This five-day programme examines how commodity prices, regulatory conditions and technological developments affect models of revenue, expenditure and cash flow, with applications in oil and gas, renewables and utilities. Delegates build financial models and interpret results for decisions about projects and investments.
Modelling work uses advanced Excel formulas and functions. Delegates forecast income and expenses before applying discounted cash flow (DCF) analysis, net present value (NPV) and internal rate of return (IRR) calculations to project evaluation. Case studies include an initial energy project model, a renewable energy model, oil and gas exploration sensitivity analysis and a utility-scale solar project.
Day one introduces the oil and gas, renewable energy and utility segments. Day two moves into structured modelling techniques, incorporating assumptions for commodity prices, production volumes and costs. Day three is devoted to forecasting and sensitivity analysis. The final two days address project evaluation and financial performance. Day four examines market, regulatory and operational risks alongside NPV and IRR calculations. Day five covers financial ratio analysis, including liquidity, solvency, efficiency and profitability metrics, and how to present those findings clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:
