Course overview

Financial statements are the primary means by which a company communicates its position to investors, regulators and other stakeholders. When those statements rest on a poorly designed chart of accounts, or when adjusting entries are missed, the reports lose credibility. Getting the process right, from initial recording through to the notes and audit section, demands a clear sequence that finance teams can follow consistently.

The programme follows transactions through the accounting cycle. Supporting documents and transaction recording lead into ledger preparation, the general ledger and trial balances, including the adjustments needed before closing the books. Work on the chart of accounts addresses its design and maintenance. Delegates also process deferrals and accruals and prepare the post-closing trial balance.

Five days combine accounting theory with practical Excel work and workplace cases. The later modules address preparing income statements, balance sheets, cash flows and statements of owners' equity. Delegates examine the accompanying notes and the role of external audit, including how to interpret an audit opinion. Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) receives separate attention within the reporting content.
