Course overview
Projects support organisational change. Delegates compare project management with operational management and examine how project practices apply to work of different sizes, including complex undertakings. Inception, definition, execution, monitoring and control, and closure provide the lifecycle structure for the discussion of project management as an organisational competency.
The project manager works with several other roles. Delegates examine the perspectives of the sponsor, project team, steering group and Project Management Office (PMO), then consider plans that communicate quality requirements to decision makers. Technical management topics cover scope, schedules, resources and cost; leadership, stakeholder relationships, communication and conflict management address work with people.
Resourcing includes the critical chain approach and expediting. Monitoring cycles, performance indicators and change control systems follow the work on planning and uncertainty. Project auditing and performance analysis inform reports and records before handover, lessons learnt and the development of a learning culture. Personal assessment, reflection and action planning accompany exercises and case studies.
