Course overview

Safety leadership influences the standards and behaviours adopted across high-hazard operations. The programme examines that responsibility at different organisational levels, with attention to the transition from technical or supervisory work into a safety leadership role. Delegates consider how management and leadership practices affect the working environment and the way people respond to hazards.

Behavioural work begins with self-awareness. Sessions examine the ABC model of Behavioural Change and the effects of perception and situational awareness, then address questioning, listening and ways to challenge unsafe acts. Teamwork and advanced safety coaching connect these interpersonal methods with individual performance and commitment to safety.

Risk control receives a separate day, covering assessment matrices and permits as well as safe systems of work and procedures for investigating accidents or incidents. The final sessions examine the organisation's safety vision and how leaders gain stakeholder support, with attention to sustaining an improved safety climate and culture.
