Course overview

Shift team leaders act as the main link between line management and the operational workforce in the oil, gas, and petrochemical sectors. They hold responsibility for both managing the technical aspects of the shift and directing the people who carry out the work. When a problem arises or conflict occurs, the shift leader must resolve it. Doing so maintains safety and production levels.

Practical skills for managing shift operations sit at the centre of this programme. Delegates learn to identify operational risks, apply problem-solving techniques, and make prompt decisions. The programme also covers how to plan tasks, manage time, and allocate resources across a shift to keep the plant running efficiently.

The days are split between operational management and team leadership. Delegates study how to communicate clearly, conduct safe handover briefs, and manage workplace conflict. The final days focus on team development. Here, delegates learn how to coach their staff and give feedback that improves performance.
