Course overview

Trading with international partners introduces risks that can threaten an organisation's stability. Financial controllers and procurement teams need a thorough understanding of trade finance to secure favourable terms while protecting company assets.

The programme explores the mechanics of international trade. It starts with the conflicting goals of buyers and sellers, then moves through the specific shipping documents and payment terms required to complete a deal safely. Delegates look closely at the banking facilities available to importers and exporters, including overdrafts, factoring and export credit insurance.

The final days focus on the practical application of letters of credit and bank guarantees. Delegates examine the contractual relationships between all parties. They also review the accounting treatment for different instruments and learn how to handle discrepancies.
