Course overview

Workforce planning connects with every HR function, yet organisational and market complexity can make its implementation inconsistent. External labour markets matter here. An operational model gives delegates a way to forecast employee demand and supply, understand the causes of gaps and choose staffing initiatives within management's control. The course surveys planning drivers and KPIs and provides opportunities to apply forecasting techniques to both the quantity and quality of different human resources.

The six modules begin with organisational development, structure and economic considerations before examining workforce planning phases and strategic staffing. Demand forecasts use trend and ratio analysis, scatter plots and zero manning; supply and gap analysis feed into staffing plans and actions. Delegates also consider succession and development planning, proactive talent management and staffing effectiveness. Budget preparation brings together estimation, HR costs, operating budgets and variance analysis, with control systems and the control process receiving separate attention.
