Course overview

Academic documents need clear organisation and evidence that supports their arguments. The programme follows research and writing from selecting a topic to preparing work for presentation. Day 1 considers academic expectations, tone and document types through a sample paper; Day 2 examines literature reviews, source evaluation, note-taking and outlines, including a research question and preliminary outline.

Structure receives practical attention. On Day 3, delegates draft an introduction and body paragraph, connecting background, thesis statements and objectives with arguments, evidence and analysis. Conclusions cover findings and implications. Citation work on Day 4 introduces APA, MLA, Chicago and other styles, with Zotero, EndNote and Mendeley for managing references. Paraphrasing, quotation and summaries address plagiarism. Editing and peer feedback then examine grammar, clarity and coherence, followed by abstracts, presentation preparation and plans for continued improvement. Templates, checklists and academic resources accompany a workbook; daily breaks include time for Q&A.
