Companies encounter financial risks during their operations and need methods for deciding which exposures require action. The programme follows that process through an Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework, beginning with risk definitions, appetite and the three lines of defence. Financial markets and products provide context for the analysis that follows.
Assessment uses both judgement and calculation. Delegates examine brainstorming and the Delphi technique, then use SWOT analysis, probability and impact assessments and heat maps to consider priorities. Quantitative work addresses credit and market exposures, including Expected Credit Loss (ECL), valuation and Value at Risk (VaR), alongside liquidity and operational risk.
Simulation supports decisions about uncertainty. Monte Carlo methods, sensitivity analysis and Expected Monetary Value (EMV) lead into response strategies and contingency planning, with decision trees and risk appetite guiding choices. The final day examines risk registers, maturity assessments and monitoring, including risk-based internal audit and emerging risks.
