Course overview

Project contracts commonly specify insurance for the works, equipment and third-party claims, including indemnity protecting the employer or client. Contract study considers the practical application of those requirements in FIDIC and local Conditions of Contract, with attention to provisions that may be overlooked during site implementation. Insurance transfers risk. Risk management also addresses exposure to floods, fires, explosions and landslides, as well as design flaws and material defects.

Delegates examine how site coverage is arranged and underwritten, the concerns influencing underwriters' decisions and the circumstances that trigger a Contractors All Risks policy. Policy study includes Munich Re standard wording and regional formats, the distinction between CAR and EAR, Sections I and II, and Section III (ALOP). Cover periods, exclusions and conditions lead into material damage and third-party liability in detail.

The material damage work covers operative clauses, insured sums, settlement and design options including DE 3, alongside overtime and express-freight extensions. Liability sessions consider limits, special terms, clauses, endorsements and loss adjusters. Underwriting and claims work then connects risk management with claims handling, loss-control surveys and ex-gratia payments. Regional cases and worked examples support practical application and asset-management practices.
