Course overview
Managing a FIDIC project starts before the main contract is awarded. The programme examines pre-contract disciplines, the FIDIC Client Consultant Service Agreement and selection of the form suited to the project, then follows post-award administration and claim management. Delegates consider document structure, preparation of conditions and their legal character, including the relationship with legal systems and project risks.
Contract forms differ. The nine modules review the 1999 editions and compare the construction contract with the 1987 Red Book before examining the Employer's, Engineer's and Contractor's obligations and entitlements. Clause study includes nominated subcontractors and design, staff and labour, plant and materials, workmanship, commencement, delays and suspension.
Later work covers completion testing, taking over, defects liability and tests after completion, followed by measurement, evaluation, variations, price and payment procedures. Suspension and termination connect with risk, responsibility, insurance and force majeure. The final module follows claims procedures and disputes through amicable settlement, the dispute adjudication board and arbitration. Group discussions, cases and practical exercises support use of the contractual mechanisms.
