Course overview

A healthy, safe and environmentally responsible workplace requires attention to hazards, compliance and everyday behaviour. Safety work on Day 1 examines Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) principles, the business benefits of safety and sustainability and standards including OSHA, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001. A group discussion addresses workplace challenges.

Hazards require assessment. Risk work on Day 2 distinguishes physical, chemical, biological and ergonomic hazards, then follows identification, analysis, evaluation and control through a simulated workplace assessment. Day 3 turns to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), accident and illness prevention and the selection, use and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), with a demonstration of proper use.

Environmental work on Day 4 introduces Environmental Management Systems (EMS), waste, pollution and resource conservation, then develops a sustainability action plan. Leadership and employee involvement connect these topics with a safety-first culture, accountability and training. Cases of successful and unsuccessful HSE practice accompany lectures, discussion and exercises, with quizzes and action plans supporting continuing improvement. A workbook supplies templates, checklists and resources, and daily breaks allow Q&A.
