Course overview

Team members need to be able to offer ideas, raise concerns and admit mistakes without fear of judgement or retaliation. Psychological safety addresses those conditions. The course examines its science and effects on performance, innovation and organisational culture, using Amy Edmondson's framework to consider how leaders shape environments where people can speak. Empathy, trust and open communication are examined alongside fear and team dynamics.

Delegates recognise emotional and behavioural signals, develop emotional intelligence (EQ) and use active listening and emotional validation to support wellbeing and reduce fear-based behaviour. Sessions consider psychological contracts, vulnerability, humility and learning from mistakes, together with difficult conversations and boundaries that preserve emotional connection. Inclusive leadership invites different voices, supports belonging and encourages feedback without retribution. Team assessments, leadership self-assessment and coaching accompany a personalised action plan for embedding safety and empathy in interactions and organisational initiatives. Cases, practical exercises and discussions address engagement, collaboration, authentic leadership and resilience.
