Course overview

Governance, risk management, compliance and internal controls belong within one organisational system. The five-day course examines their relationships, including the responsibilities of boards and committees and the controls used to respond to risk in different business areas. Delegates consider how governance models organise relationships between a company and its stakeholders.

Risk work follows the COSO approach. Delegates examine the organisation's internal setting and external conditions before identifying and assessing exposures, selecting controls and considering how to monitor and report changes. Compliance occupies the fifth day, including ISO guidance and the risks of non-compliance.

Board decisions receive separate attention. Sessions address independence and the code of conduct, then consider selection, remuneration and assessment of board members. Discussion of governance failures sits alongside the practical work of communicating and implementing governance arrangements throughout the organisation.
