Course overview

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) addresses workplace hazards and the conditions affecting employee wellbeing. The programme links accident prevention, regulatory compliance and safety culture with a healthy working environment. Day 1 considers the business case and standards including OSHA and ISO 45001, followed by discussion of workplace safety challenges.

Assessment identifies what needs control. Work on Day 2 covers physical, chemical, biological and ergonomic hazards and methods for identifying, analysing and evaluating risks, with an assessment of a simulated workplace.

Health programmes on Day 3 address illness and injury prevention, physical and mental wellbeing and workspace design to reduce strain. Delegates design a health and wellness programme for a simulated organisation. Training on Day 4 examines employee safety education, programme development and delivery and emergency drills, including practice in conducting a training session.

Leadership helps sustain participation. The closing work connects a safety-first culture with accountability and employee engagement in OHS initiatives. Expert-led teaching, cases of success and failure, group discussion and practical exercises support the work, with quizzes and plans for continuing improvement. Daily breaks allow Q&A, and a workbook contains templates, checklists and resources.
