International intellectual property work involves several institutions whose responsibilities are easily confused. WIPO administers treaties and international services, national and regional offices apply the laws within their remit, and the WTO oversees the TRIPS Agreement. Understanding these relationships helps organisations direct enquiries, interpret official information and plan international activity without assuming that one institution grants universally effective rights. This course focuses on the structure and operation of the international framework rather than detailed drafting of individual applications.
Day 1 maps the institutional landscape and the relationship between international commitments and domestic implementation. Day 2 examines WIPO's treaty administration, cooperation and policy processes. Day 3 compares the purposes of the PCT, Madrid and Hague systems, including the continuing role of national or regional authorities. Day 4 explores official legal and technical information sources and the services of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center. Day 5 applies the framework to organisational and public-sector scenarios. Across the five days, delegates practise identifying reliable sources, recognising the limits of institutional mandates and briefing colleagues on appropriate next steps.
