Strategy gives an organisation a direction and helps staff keep its mission and goals in view. Team leaders and other professionals contribute to its formulation and implementation through the plans they make and the way they lead. The programme examines strategic awareness and its effect on operational activities, including the choice of planning tools and when to use them.
Leadership affects implementation. Delegates reflect on their own styles and preferences, and consider how communication and delegation influence staff engagement and the execution of plans. The work includes recognising the value of strategic thinking, relating strategic aims to efficient plans, assessing individual contributions to operational and strategic performance, and setting team and staff objectives aligned with organisational goals.
Sustainable business strategy is examined through its meaning and role, its links with corporate activity, and the sustainability challenges facing managers and organisations. Innovative thinking and creative solutions are considered as ways to incorporate sustainability into different organisations. Later sessions address power, organisational practices, collaboration and challenge, professional networks and pressure. Career development includes strategy development in 21st-century organisations, Kotter’s Eight Stage model and individual leadership development plans.
