Course overview

A crisis can place strategic, tactical and operational decisions under pressure. This programme provides management solutions and strategies for analysing complex incidents and building operational responses, including stakeholder response and implementation of Crisis Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence (C3i). Its framework aligns with British Standards Institute (BSI) BS 11200, is coherent with NCEMA 7000 and ISO 22301, and addresses international requirements.

Threat scenarios shape preparation. Delegates examine incident escalation to crisis and disaster, Civil Defence responsibilities, National Risk Registers and the relationships between crisis, continuity, risk and emergency management. The programme covers crisis phases, causes and recovery, including 12 steps for supporting an organisation through a crisis. Precautions and protection of important assets precede work on team structure, leadership, succession, stress and command.

Communication planning addresses internal and external audiences, team mobilisation and stakeholder management, followed by the effects of social media. Training and exercising sessions cover validation and lessons learned, with a case and role-play scenario to apply the work. Specific crisis-management templates can be taken back to the organisation; scenario-based exercises include support for developing a crisis strategy across 4 days.
