Course overview

Business strategy requires analytical work and decisions about how an organisation will act. This programme connects strategic management theory with the practical use of tools, including SWOT analysis and SMART objectives. Delegates examine strategic thinking in a competitive environment and the development and execution of plans aligned with organisational objectives.

Leadership shapes implementation. Alongside the practical use of strategic management tools, the sessions address the leadership qualities needed to direct teams and influence an organisational culture that supports innovation and adaptability. Emotional intelligence, communication, persuasion and employee motivation are studied alongside the cultural factors that affect leaders, interactions and outcomes. Stakeholder analysis helps account for diverse interests.

Five days move from strategy formulation to management skills, culture and tactical planning. Work includes writing vision and mission statements, understanding the complexity of 21st-century decisions and converting strategy into business and operational plans. Case studies, simulations and exercises provide practical applications of strategic tools. The final sessions consider employees' responses to change, team roles, engagement, a learning culture and personal action plans.
