Course overview

Emotional intelligence concerns understanding and expressing emotions, perceiving other people's feelings and making decisions. The course examines its role in leadership and management, including how emotions affect thoughts and behaviour. Brain design, the three aspects of emotional intelligence and its cycle provide a starting point before delegates assess their own abilities through psychometrics.

Relationships require awareness and control. Self-awareness work uses the APET model, a mood meter and Plutchik's wheel of emotions, while self-control sessions address five competencies. Motivation, stress and difficult situations connect with social awareness, empathy and active listening. Delegates consider building trust and resilience, handling personal conflict and developing rapport, then examine inspirational leadership, influencing and conflict styles, the Interest-Based Relational (IBR) approach and Beckhard's team effectiveness model. Interactive exercises and reflection address the application of these competencies to individual and team performance.
