Course overview

Tasks need clear expectations. The course addresses how to understand work, establish priorities and schedule activities against agreed deadlines so that tasks contribute to organisational visions and goals. Delegates examine the PTTR lifecycle, the effects of strategy and structure on work completion, and the skills used to plan task assignments and manage stakeholders and risks.

Task ownership also involves coordination with colleagues. Assessments and business cases examine personal work styles, productivity and the demands of meetings, emails and interruptions. Role-play and team exercises address delegation, collaboration and the conflicts that can arise when tasks, deadlines or priorities change. Delegates practise communicating and justifying changes, consider resistance and employee reactions, and prepare personal plans for self-management. The material applies to departmental work and projects, including preparation for supervisory or managerial responsibilities.
