Course overview

Relationships affect how information moves within an organisation and how people gain support for their work. The course examines practical communication and relationship management, including the preparation and organisation of thoughts, the presentation of ideas and the building of purposeful networks. Delegates use scenarios and cases to practise the skills before applying them at work.

Trust supplies the starting point. The Johari Window and Botari Box accompany work on self-awareness, assertiveness and rapport, while stakeholder analysis uses a power and interest matrix. Delegates consider how context affects communication, how to adapt messages to people's needs and styles, and how relationships can move from individual transactions towards lasting change. Dale Carnegie's work and the WIIFU and WIIFM perspectives inform discussion of influence, shared interests, investment in relationships and decisions to withdraw from them.
