Course overview

Process inconsistency creates customer dissatisfaction and inflates operating costs across commercial enterprises. Without structured problem-solving tools, frontline staff struggle to distinguish random operational noise from systemic process defects. Over five days, Yellow Belt practitioners explore the foundational principles originated by Motorola for data-driven process improvement.

Delegates examine quality maturity levels, the ISO 9000 family and the five stages of DMAIC: Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, and Control. Training explains how Green Belts and Black Belts lead initiatives while Yellow Belts assist with data gathering, project charter drafting and converting Voice of the Customer (VOC) inputs into Critical to Quality (CTQ) specifications.

Delegates calculate process capability indices and explore operational variation using practical examples. Sessions introduce analytical charts including histograms, run charts, control charts, Pareto diagrams, why-why analyses and turtle diagrams. The final day focuses on organisational readiness, employee engagement and ten diagnostic questions for executive commitment.

Course objectives

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  1. Define foundational quality concepts and international frameworks supporting Six Sigma
  2. Explain the role of Six Sigma and process variation reduction in customer service and business performance
  3. Apply the five phases of the DMAIC improvement model to departmental workflows
  4. Calculate basic process capability metrics and determine operational Sigma levels
  5. Deploy classic problem-solving tools including Pareto charts, control charts and turtle diagrams
  6. Evaluate organisational readiness and leadership commitment prior to launching Six Sigma projects
