Course overview

Some problems need deliberate analysis. Priorities, failed processes and unusual situations can require a rational examination before a decision is made, particularly when its consequences affect work, personal life or other people. The course examines thinking mechanisms and the methods used to handle simple situations as well as more complex problems, combining critical thinking with creative approaches.

Problem definition comes before solution selection. Delegates work through a six-step method and Kepner & Tregoe's approach, then use root cause analysis, corrective action, the five-why process, cause-and-effect diagrams and Pareto analysis. Decision worksheets and the How-How method accompany team decision-making. Creative work examines lateral thinking, mental blocks, brainstorming and the six thinking hats, with prepared and improvised role-play and individual and group feedback during the course.
