Course overview

A business plan helps decision-makers assess whether an idea, strategy or initiative is viable and feasible. The course follows a practical, process-based approach, moving from identifying an opportunity to defining strategic goals and the operational and financial means of achieving them. Plans also serve as tools for communication, negotiation and persuasion when different areas of the business need to collaborate.

Teams do the work. Delegates identify initiatives within their organisation or independently, agree roles and contribute to a shared plan. Business analysis tools help evaluate ideas and choose their direction. Planning covers market and situation analysis, financial forecasts, pricing and break-even analysis, followed by resource allocation, scheduling and budgeting. Teams present to one another and finish with a complete plan they may share with colleagues and managers.

Implementation is examined in detail through communication, control and correction. Job assignments, reporting relationships and the knowledge base support delivery. Delegates analyse deviations and their causes, provide constructive feedback and consider changes to goals, schedules, budgets and resources. Reporting sessions address recipients, information quality and frequency so that progress can be evaluated and corrective steps taken.

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:
