Facility management (FM) brings several disciplines together to support functionality, comfort, safety and efficiency in the built environment. It integrates people, place, process and technology and includes both hard and soft services. Third-party providers often deliver parts of the work, so their selection, contracts and performance need careful management.
Planning precedes delivery. Delegates examine space use, stakeholder needs and risks before considering the business drivers of FM strategy and its formulation, analysis, development and implementation. Workplace management covers people and productivity as well as health, safety, security and 5S. Outsourcing sessions follow the decision, procurement process, contract development and service specification.
Service continuity and end-user requirements inform the work on managing providers and performance, including service level agreements, key performance indicators and responses to poor delivery. Project and maintenance management are examined together with continuous improvement in FM. Sustainability work considers environmental issues, corporate social responsibility and innovation. Brief presentations, exercises, videos and problem-solving activities explore these considerations and how the FM function can provide value.
