Internal audit leaders work with boards and audit committees as well as business leaders, peers and their own teams. This course examines the leadership and influencing skills needed in those relationships, alongside the management of assurance and consulting engagements. Delegates consider common challenges and the opportunities for audit to contribute at a strategic level.
Planning links risk maturity with audit priorities. Sessions address the assurance universe and audit strategy, then consider coordination with other assurance providers and the practical delivery of an annual or six-monthly plan. Resource work examines dispersed teams, co-sourcing and contractors, with attention to efficiency and risks within the audit function itself.
Stakeholder perceptions affect audit relationships. The fourth day examines the services audit offers, reporting and recommendations, and ways to manage conflict through negotiation and persuasion. The final sessions address insight and value, including the benefits and difficulties of advisory work and the internal and external assessments that support a quality assurance and improvement programme.
